Why is Sponsorship important?
Is a often asked question. Think of a Sponsor as a guide. They do not give advice but share their experience, strength and hope. They are someone to help you on your way with Al-Anon. Someone that you trust and who will guide you in the program. Someone that you can talk to or share with. Someone to help you grow. Someone who will listen to you. Sponsorship is based on unconditional love and not shame or judgement.
Sponsorship is a one on one relationship. In searching for a sponsor it is often best to find someone that you relate to, someone whose shares resonate with you. You have to ask someone to be your sponsor, they are not assigned to you. A sponsor is not a teacher but someone that shares their experience, strength, and hope with you. The relationship is spiritually based with no strings attached but based on equality, trust and anonymity.
